Color: 2012

Even if you don't plan to replace your wardrobe or give up your red toaster, here's a sneak peek at what color gurus are mixing up for 2012.*

As always, experts chose colors to reflect a societal theme; this time focusing on the idea of "preservation as a call to embrace the rhythms of nature's changes, and the journey along the way."

What to expect?

"Heritage" colors that link to our history and provide comfort--gold and sunny yellows, darker reds and saturated neutrals.

"Process" colors that reflect our journey--blueprint-inspired, bold and pixilated. Red and orange as contrasts to grays.

"Protection" colors that speak to our need to feel safe.    Black is the new black and purple will continue its reign.

"Enlightenment" colors that are forward-looking, that communicate rebirth--cloud whites and vaporous tones, silvery and mirror effects, aquatic blues.
